MANUEL DE FALLA EN FALLAS
 by
SOVIET GYM

[Arturo Marín Ramos]

Piece taken from The Red Album of Metabakalao, 2019, (an emotional synthesis of the “Bakalao” sound).

In this work, SOVIET GYM draws upon two foreign musical styles that have become deeply rooted in the artist’s local environment (Alicante–Murcia). On one hand, Heavy Metal (the first mass genre focused on creating an atmosphere of terror” and, according to the author’s theories, the older sibling of punk); on the other, Hardcore Gabber (the most extreme and heavy form of mass electronic music).

Both are linked with the traditional music of local popular festivities (Holy Week / Moors and Christians / Bonfires), with the aim of envisioning possible “New Traditional Music.”

[It is no coincidence that these foreign styles have already become part of the musical DNA of these lands, as both possess an ostentatious and epic character, qualities that fit perfectly with the cultural and ancestral rituals of this region, where Blood and Fire establish the bonds.]
